The CAPACITY Project is implemented by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) in partnership with Abt Associates (Abt), Boston University (BU), Howard University, International HIV/AIDS Alliance and Population Services International (PSI).

JSI Research and Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) is a non-profit public health organization based in Boston, Massachusetts. Established in 1978, JSI has become a recognized leader in international public health, implementing more than 300 projects in 84 countries. Currently, JSI operates from four U.S. and 26 international offices, with more than 375 U.S.-based staff, 700 host country national field-based staff, and more than 4,000 consultant experts. JSI has provided more than 275 person-years of technical assistance in Eastern Europe, Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean, South America, Latin America, and Africa. JSI has worked with and served such clients as USAID, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Mellon Foundation, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, UNHCR, the Aga Khan Foundation, Open Society Institute and many non-governmental and private organizations. Our approach to public health management centers on building institutions from within. It is JSI’s experience that capacity building cannot take place without partnership: this vision of partnership guides JSI in its relationships with governments, donors, local counterparts, and partner institutions. Boston University School of Public Health and its Center for International Health and Development (CIHD) seek to address important international public health research questions that have both local and global policy relevance for developing countries and that strengthen the capacity of public health scientists and practitioners in those areas to find their own solutions to implement and improve health care delivery systems. CIHD has a core, full-time technical staff of 20 biomedical and social scientists, divided between the head office in Boston and field offices in six African countries. www.bu.edu |

The NMAETC is a national collaborative network of clinicians and experts who provide capacity building and related support that help Care providers give excellence in care to minority and minority serving populations diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. This is accomplished through evidence-based, provider driven programs, resources and direction for sustaining preventive behavior and improving outcome measures. Headquartered in the College of Medicine at Howard University, in Washington DC, the NMAETC has five sites in minority institutions across the United States. Initially funded in 1999 under the Minority AIDS Initiative, the Center provides services in clinical training and services delivery, cultural competency, infrastructure management, and continuous quality improvement. NMAETC and it’s dedicated staff has the experience in clinical, cultural competency and infrastructure management to assist JSI in building the capacity of care of HIV/AIDS both internationally and domestically. www.nmaetc.org |

The International HIV/AIDS Alliance (the Alliance) is the European Union’s largest HIV/AIDS-focused development organization. Established in 1993, its work focuses on mobilizing and strengthening communities so that they can respond to HIV/AIDS themselves. IHA is an initiative of people, organizations and communities working towards a shared vision by supporting effective community responses to HIV and AIDS. The Alliance’s mission is to support communities to play a full and effective role in the global response to AIDS. Through its secretariat in Brighton and country offices, the Alliance provides technical and financial support to local civil society organizations that represent or provide services to vulnerable and affected communities. To date the Alliance and intermediary NGO partner organizations have supported 1,300 civil society organizations and 2,300 community HIV/AIDS projects in 40 countries. The Alliance currently supports long-term NGO support programs in 20 countries in Eastern Europe (Ukraine), Asia (including Mongolia), Africa and Latin America. Through its work with thousands of CBOs and NGOs, the Alliance develops and tests new approaches, builds evidence-based tools and shares these widely. www.aidsalliance.org |

Population Services International (PSI) is a non-profit organization that combines entrepreneurial spirit with social mission to encourage healthy behavior worldwide. Through its health social marketing programs in 66 countries, PSI distributes affordable, accessible, and attractive health products. PSI raises awareness of health problems and generates demand for the health products it provides through innovative and culturally sensitive communications. PSI’s primary interventions address: HIV/STIs, family planning, diarrheal disease, malaria, micro-nutrient deficiencies, and waterborne illnesses. In the next two year, PSI is completing 2 USAID-funded HIV prevention and drug demand reduction programs that totaled over 7 million USD. www.psi.org |
