Kyrgyzstan. Capacity building of local AIDS service organizations.

In September 2008 CAPACITY completed second stage of Civil Society Mobilization Strategy which was started back in November 2007 when the Regional Training of Trainers took place. The Regional TOT was followed by oblast-level trainings on institutional and organizational development for AIDS-service organizations in Chui, Jalalabat, Batken and Osh oblasts and Bishkek city.

As a next step a follow-up on-site consulting was conducted by the consultants trained by CAPACITY in Bishkek and Osh Oblast which allowed getting more information about issues which AIDS –service organizations are facing and working out solutions. Thus, the consultants presented national and non-governmental organizations with HIV prevention, trained on information exchange methods and mechanisms and trained them on quality management tools, discussed participation of the civil society in development of the National application for Global Fund round 9.

Besides, a number of ASO received technical assistance in developing grant applications. Thus, "Avalon” NGO already received preliminary approval for financing their applications from Soros Foundation and CAAP.

Overall, all issues and needs of ASOs identified during the site visits will be reviewed and considered when CAPACITY will develop 3rd stage of civil society mobilization strategy.
