Uzbekistan. Strengthening the role of civil society in the response to HIV prevalence

In the frame of providing support to civil society in the strengthening its role in National Strategic Program on HIV (SP) implementation CAPACITY provided technical assistance to National Association of NGOs of Uzbekistan (NANNOUz) in conducting series of monitoring visits to all regions of the Republic.

The aim of the activity was to analyze the present situation, role and place of civil society in SP realization on regional level. During the meetings of NANNOUz experts with leaders and volunteers of local NGOs the issues on strengthening coordination between partners were discussed. The experts also met with initiative groups of PLH to discuss the issues related to establishment of republican organization of PLH. After the meetings, Round Tables "Role of civil society in SP realization” were organized in each region. Oblast Coordination Committee (OCC) members, head physicians of AIDS centers, narcology and tuberculosis dispensaries, representatives of Women’s Committee, institute of Health and resource centers of NANNOUz actively participated in discussions. The participants developed the proposals and recommendations on active involvement of NGO into process of SP oblast plan realization.

These activities took place in Tashkent city, Tashkent, Bukhara, Navoi, Samarkand, Djizak, Sirdarya, Fergana, Andijan, Namangan, Khorezm oblasts and Republic of Karakalpakstan. In October the same activities will be held in the remaining regions of Uzbekistan.
