Youth of Uzbekistan for healthy lifestyle

Within the framework of joint activities with Social Initiative Support Fund CAPACITY/USAID provided technical assistance in conducting series of youth actions "We are for healthy lifestyle we have no time for anything else” in Bukhara, Navoi, Samarkand and Karshi cities. The participants of the actions were students of institutes of higher education, colleges, and non-organized youth. Besides, students of senior school no 32 (Bukhara), Olympic reserves special sport college’s students and participants of marathon "Health in family” (Navoi), members of city tourist club, participants of ensemble of national creativity and representatives of city mass media (Samarkand) took part in the actions.

During the actions youth had an opportunity to increase their level of knowledge on HIV/AIDS and drug addiction problems, and receive answers to all interested questions.

The actions were planned, organized and conducted in close collaboration with government organizations and NGOs. Volunteers of local NGOs were actively involved in conducting interactive sessions on HIV/STI and drug addiction prevention activities among youth.

Actions were recognized as well-timed activities and received their particular actuality in the present year, which was announced by the President of Republic of Uzbekistan "Year of Youth”.

In August-September 2008 9000 young people from 9 cities of the country- Tashkent, Fergana, Andijan, Kokand, Namangan, Bukhara, Navoi, Samarkand and Karshi- took part in the conducted actions.
